In 2008:

   There were 23.2 million military veterans in the United States

   71% of veterans voted for president (15.8 million) — 63% of the non-veterans voted

Veterans who served in multiple wars:

   182,000 veterans served during both World War II and the Korean War
   245,000 veterans served during both the Korean War and the Vietnam Era
   740,000 veterans served during both Gulf War eras
   92,000 veterans served during World War II, the Korean war, and Vietnam era

   50,000 veterans served during both the Vietnam era and in the Gulf War

Vietnam

   7.8 million veterans are from the Vietnam-era
   Thirty-three percent of all living veterans served during 1964–1975
 
 
Other Facts

   5.2 million veterans served during the Gulf War (Aug. 2, 1990 – present)

   2.6 million veterans served in WWII (1941-1945)

   2.8 million surviving veterans served in the Korean War (1950-1953)

   9.2 million veterans were age 65 or older

   1.9 million veterans were younger than 35

   1.1 million veterans were Hispanic

   2.3 million veterans were Black

   1.8 million veterans were female
